Margerum Ranch Vineyard is dedicated to growing and producing world class Pinot Gris from our estate vineyard located at mile twelve on the Klickitat River twelve miles north of the Columbia Gorge in Washington State. The wine is labeled KLICKITAT and it has a jumping steelhead on the label.
Our vineyard property is composed of 100% red basalt soil composition resulting in low yielding vines that produce intense flavors and layers of complexity. The Klickitat River runs through the property reflecting sunlight and moderating the temperature - cooling warm days and warming cold nights. The climate at our vineyard is marginal at best; Margerum Ranch Vineyard is on the edge of where vinifera can be successfully grown. Pinot Gris, the earliest ripening varietal in the vinifera group is the only grape will actually grow and mature.
There is a winery building on the land and the hope is, to one day, when the vineyard is at full production, make the wines on the property. There is a large home on the property with plenty of room for guests, a large kitchen, and recreational facilities. There is a wine cellar full of Margerum library wines. There are gardens, orchards, blueberries, picnicking, and thousands of surrounding acreage for hiking & exploring. The surrounding wilderness is wide open and accessible. The Klickitat River, which was designated as a Wild and Scenic river in 1986 runs through the property and anglers can vie for Chinook, steelhead, and king salmon directly in front of the house. Kayaking and swimming are all part of the experience. Additionally, the original homestead has been completely refurbished and can be used as a guest facility.
